According to a new poll done by NPR, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, and the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, most white Americans experience that they are discriminated against because of their race. Which is a little terrifying, since racism against white people doesn't exist. It's not a far leap for a privileged group of people to leap from believing that they confront discrimination to calling out "reverse racism," making a real, productive conversation about race in America even more difficult.
It actually can't exist said enough: Racism confronting white people cannot be in America (unless we go back in time and flip the switch on the European colonization of natives and trans-continental slave trade and go far and so that those things and the subsequent years of systemic oppression of people of color never happened). This new survey didn't inquire white people if they felt that reverse racism existed, but if they felt discriminated confronting by people of color. According to the survey, 55 percentage of white Americans experience that they are discriminated against. Tim Hershman of Akron, Ohio, a 68-year-old man, told NPR in a statement, "If you apply for a chore, they seem to give the blacks the first crevice at it and, basically, you know, if you desire whatsoever help from the government, if yous're white, y'all don't go it. If you're black, you get it."
Nevertheless, data — including the data supplied by survey participants — showed that this isn't the case. For case, 19 percentage of white people said they had been discriminated against at work and 13 percent said racial bigotry confronting white people led to them not getting a raise or promotion. Not only are these people straight-upwards incorrect near the facts when it comes to losing access to jobs or education to a person of color, they make any existent change or serious conversation near race almost impossible to take. Sure, some people of color might have prejudices against white people, only those prejudices cannot oppress white people in America, which is what racism is all about. Any compensatory measures that are instituted to exercise the smallest chip to span the coulee of racial inequality in this country yet could never corporeality to white oppression or even significant marginalization.
